Police are searching a house belonging to Sir Cliff Richard in relation to an alleged historical sex offence said to have taken place in South Yorkshire.

The allegation involves a boy aged under 16 and dates from the 1980s.

A house belonging to the musician in Berkshire has been searched today, with a number of items removed from the property.

Sir Cliff was not at the house at the time of today’s search.

Reports said the search is not connected to Operation Yewtree but officers from the operation have been notified.

A statement from South Yorkshire Police said: “South Yorkshire Police has gained entry to a property in the Sunningdale area of Berkshire.

“Officers are currently searching the property.

“A search warrant was granted after police received an allegation of a sexual nature dating back to the 1980s involving a boy who was under the age of 16 at the time.
