Search for new leisure centre site continues

Over 500 people have submitted their views on where a planned new sports centre for the north of the Isle should be, and on what facilities it should provide.

A public consultation exercise about the planned new £3 million sports venue took place between May 1 and 16, to allow everyone in the area to register their preferences.

North Lincolnshire Council has promised to follow the wishes of Isle residents when deciding both the location and the facilities that will be on offer within the new Centre and around it.

There is a great deal of support for the centre, that people have long requested for the Crowle area, as they currently have to travel to Epworth or Goole for sport and leisure interests.

Talks between North Lincolnshire Council and a number of landowners about the feasibility of sites is ongoing.

Coun John Briggs, deputy leader of North Lincolnshire Council said: “I would like to thank everyone who took the time to respond to the consultation. The response has been fantastic and people are clearly passionate and supportive about the council’s plans to develop sports facilities in the Axholme North Ward.

“Our next step is to look at securing a site. We plan to meet with landowners to explore our options. We will update people on the outcome of discussions as soon as we are in a position to do so.”

The building is scheduled to open in early 2017.

Some Crowle town councillors have asked if the development could be brought forward, and be completed sooner for the benefit of the members of the community who are currently in need of a local outlet.

Possible sites include land behind The Axholme Academy and off Godnow Road.
