The Chamber of Commerce for Derbyshire, Notts and Leicestershire has welcomed the news that the number of people claiming out of work benefits in Notts fell significantly in March, providing further evidence that the economic recovery is gathering pace.

The number of Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) claimants in the city dropped from 13,460 to 12,996 across the county.

Across the East Midlands, the total number of people in employment between December and February fell by around 13,000 compared to the previous three months.

Welcoming the figures, George Cowcher, chief executive of the chamber of commerce for Derbyshire, Notts and Leicestershire, said: “Following slight increases in JSA in January and February, the fact that the number of claimants has fallen significantly in March is great news and provides further evidence that the economy is strengthening.”
