Nicola Dougan, 29, has spent the last three years studying a full time degree course at the University of Westminster on a scholarship, which she won.

And on top of being mum to two boys, Samuel, 12, and Lochlan, three, she also managed to work full time at the council’s Building Control Team.

Nicola said: “I personally feel astounded that I have completed my degree successfully and also to the scholarship requirement. Especially in the final year juggling full time work alongside the full time study.

“I really would not have been able to do this without the fantastic support of my mum. It was a huge commitment and certainly shown dedication to my employer and University. I feel very lucky to be part of the team here at West Lindsey.”

Nicola has obtained a 2:1 degree, which is recognised by RICS making her the first woman at the council to qualify in this area of work.

The learning doesn’t stop here for Nicola who is hoping to continue with her APC (Assessment of Professional Competency) in September and further career progression to become a Chartered Surveyor.

“I am very excited for my future as a Building Control Surveyor leading towards full membership of the RICS as a Chartered Surveyor”.
