Laughton: Consultant awarded with prestigious medal

Dr Peter Cowling, consultant microbiologist, has received the Royal College of Pathologists medal for services to pathology.

He is one of two people to receive the accolade since 2012 and only the 14th to have ever done so.

The College medal is awarded for distinguished service to the College and to pathology in general.

It was awarded to Dr Cowling for his contribution to the College after decades of contributing to a wide range of activities on a national platform, and helping to introduce important improvements in pathology.

He was awarded with his medal at The Hall, Middle Temple, in London, at a graduation ceremony for new fellows joining the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath).

Dr Cowling said: “It was an honour and a privilege to receive the medal for services to pathology.”

Dr Cowling, who lives in Laughton, near Gainsborough, has worked at Scunthorpe hospital since 1995 as consultant microbiologist and clinical director of microbiology.
