Inspirational Worksop teen nominated for 4Uth award

The 15-year-old, from Furnival Street, is a regular visitor to the town’s youth service and has been praised for her creativity and kindness.

Youth worker Dawn Turner has now nominated keen artist Abbie for this year’s 4Uth awards, organised by Nottinghamshire County Council to recognise outstanding achievements of young people in the county.

Despite suffering from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Abbie does not let the condition stop her from living life to the full. She has regular injections to help alleviate the pain that she has in her hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders and knees.

Councillor Liz Plant, vice-chairman of the Children and Young People’s Committee at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “You would not know that Abbie has to battle with this condition as she tries to get on with a normal life.

“But despite the challenges it brings, she is still focussed on school and with her friends. She is another example of someone who has had so much to contend with at such a young age and it is wonderful that she has been nominated.

“Abbie is a great role model. She is very artistic and often inspires other young people to join in with her creations.”
