The applications for the fifth Gainsborough Business Awards are now open and you have until 15th August to submit yours.
With eight different categories to choose from, there really is something for every business and to help your application stand out from the rest, judges of the awards and previous winners have given some top tips on completing a successful application and what they think is the secret to an award winning application.
Firstly ensure that you enter the most appropriate category/categories for your business and ensure that you tailor your application specifically to the category of the award that you are applying for. You can enter as many categories as you wish, however it is advisable to write a separate application for each.
One judge said that seeing only one entry for multiple categories dilutes the application, so make that extra effort with separate applications for separate categories to really stand out.
Thoroughly read the rules and entry criteria and make sure you address all relevant points.
On completing your application, a previous winner said: “The application is not extensive and can be completed within an hour with access to the right information in your company.”
Judges are looking for a good quality application.
One judge said: “Quality of information is more important than quantity, highlighting the things that make you and your business stand out.”
Don’t assume that the judges already know about your business, chances are that they don’t and it is your job to tell them about your business and what makes it worthy of an award.
One judge added: “Try to keep the application under two pages in length to increase the impact.”
“By all means provide supporting evidence to back up the main body, but put this in an appendix.”
Make sure that you include high impact supporting documentation as this will help your application to be noteworthy to the judges, who may have a large number of applications to review.
One previous entry was delivered in a folder in date order and was very professionally presented.
The awards are a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate your business’ achievements, in addition to raising your business profile in Gainsborough and the surrounding area, and they are completely free to enter.
One previous winner said: “Whilst it’s the taking part that counts, you must not forget that participation is a celebration of all the successes of you and your company.”
