Gainsborough skip hire boss fined over waste pile

Lincolnshire County Council has taken action against the owner of the former Thompson Skip Hire business for breaches of planning rules.

During an investigation of a site on Summergangs Lane, Gainsbrough, last year, it was discovered that Kevin Thompson was piling waste up to a height of six metres—twice the permitted maximum.

Thompson, of Scotter Road, Scunthorpe, failed to respond to a warning notice with the necessary information, and as a result was prosecuted and convicted in his absence at Lincoln Magistrates Court.

Councillor Colin Davie said: “We want to make it clear that when rules are broken without a reasonable excuse, we will take action. I hope this makes anyone who’s tempted to try their luck think twice.”

Thompson was fined £770, plus a victim surcharge of £77, and ordered to pay costs of £550.
