Renowned poet Benjamin Zephaniah officially opened the new £2.7m classroom and sports hall scheme at Queen Elizabeth’s High School.

The new facilities include a two-storey block of eight classrooms, a new sports hall, remodelling of five small music practice rooms and other refurbishments.

Lincs County Council has contributed £2.2m to the scheme, with £500,000 from the Education Funding Agency and £11,000 from the school.

Coun Patricia Bradwell, Executive Coun for Children’s Services, said: “This is a tremendous boost for students, teachers and governors at Queen Elizabeth’s High School.”

“They can now enjoy top class facilities which will provide an excellent learning environment for many more young people who come through the school in years to come.”

“Where there is a need and funds allow, we are committed to improving and extending our portfolio of schools and academies.”
