Gainsborough: Dog helped fight off owner’s attacker

A woman was left with cuts and bruises after being assaulted by a man as she walked her dog through woodland in Gainsborough.

Lincs Police are appealing for anyone who might have information about this attack which happened in Warren Wood.

The 43-year-old woman was attacked in the wood off Lea Road shortly before 3pm on Saturday, 15th June.

Her ordeal only came to an end when her dog turned on her assailant, who released his grip and the woman was then able to escape and she ran away.

Lincs Police said the assault happened in woodland inbetween Mayflower Close and Foxby Hill in Gainsborough which is known locally as Warren Wood.

Lincs Police said in a statement: “She was walking through the woodland when approached from behind by a man who grabbed both her arms.”

“The victim managed to break away from the offender and was struck in the face during the scuffle, causing a scratch to her face.”

“She also suffered bruising where she was grabbed.”

The man has been described as being slim and in his late 40s or early 50s, with shoulder-length blonde hair and wrinkly skin.

He was wearing blue tracksuit bottoms and a dark blue tracksuit top with a grey strip on the sleeves and collar.

The woman was left with cuts and bruises and badly shaken by her ordeal.

Anyone with any information should contact the police on the non emergency number 101, quoting incident 276 of 15th June.

Members of the public have commented about their shock about the assault on the Gainsborough Standard Facebook page.

One comment reads: “There can’t be many 40 to 50 -years-olds in Gainsborough with wrinkly skin and long blonde hair.

“Someone must know who this man is.”

And another reads: “Some people seem to think this is alright to do, even in the day time.”
