Lincs Police and Lincs Fire and Rescue were called at around 2.45am on Saturday 9th August after there was a fire in an outbuilding at the back of Richmond House in Morton Terrace.

The building serves as a memorial and is fitted with a plaque which reads “This children’s corner is a tribute to the men and women of Gainsborough who served in his Majesty’s forces in the World War in 1939 to 1945 and was provided by funds raised during the National Savings ‘Salute the Soldier’ week 1944.”

The building has three sides and is open to the front.

There was severe damage to the roof but the three sides are still standing.

It is being treated as arson by police.

Anyone with information are asked to call Lincs Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
