A SICK PAEDOPHILE from Gainsborough has been jailed for possessing over 400 ‘horrendous’ images and videos of child pornography

Phillip Morgan, 46, was from Saxilby but has been residing at Sanders Maltings, Gainsborough since he was charged 20 months ago.

Among the images found by police were photos of the most extreme form - level 5 - and included ‘the rape and torture of children.’

Morgan was due to stand trial by jury this month but changed his plea to guilty when he admitted nine charges of making an indecent photograph of a child on dates between 13th November 2009 and 4th April 2011 and also pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited image of a child and two charges of possessing a total of 415 indecent images of a child on 12th May 2011.

On internet forums and chat rooms he made requests such as ‘Do you have any hardcore pre-teen pics - the harder the better’ and ‘the younger the better’.

He also bragged on chat rooms about having sexually abused children.

Lincoln Crown Court also heard how that through email addresses and user names that Morgan set up, he tried to shift the blame onto his business partner Paul Metcalfe - with whom he ran cleaning company Soniclean in Lincoln. The images were downloaded to a laptop and USB stick found when police raided their Monk’s Road office.

Of the 415 indecent images and videos seized, 16 of them were ‘level five’.

Morgan originally denied knowledge of the images and claimed that he and Mr Metcalfe shared use of the computer. In reality, Mr Metcalfe spent the majority of his working time out of the office and a police investigation revealed that he was not near the computer when the offences were committed.

Defending Morgan in mitigation, Mr Cramner-Brown told the court: “ Prison would be a painful experience for him.”

Sentencing the father of three to 10 months in prison and a 10-year sexual offence order, Judge Samson told Morgan: “You clearly had a perverted interest in children. You were participating in their abuse by viewing it and by requesting others to make it for your consumption.”

“These images included the rape and torture of children. Only a custodial sentence is appropriate. You showed a degree of sophistication to cast blame elsewhere and cast suspicion upon Mr Metcalfe. You could have owned up immediately and avoided the anguish he has suffered.”

Morgan was also given a 10-year sex offence order whereby he is banned from unsupervised contact with children, as well as contacting or communicating with children. His computer will also be suspect to police inspection.

Speaking to The Standard after the trial Mr Metcalfe said: “I’ve known him for 15 years, and I’m devastated that he could try to implicate one of his best friends and business colleagues. He hasn’t been part of the business since he was charged, and he has caused us problems as well as the personal distress of having my house raided. I feel let down, but relieved that this is all over and that I can move on.”

DC Nicole Linn from Lincs Police said: “We hope this conviction demonstrates our commitment to tackling online crime involving sexual abuse images.”
