Chris Clarkson and his father, Peter, took part in the Monte Carlo or Bust Banger Rally to raise money and awareness for the charity that airlifted Chris’ son, Daniel, 12 years ago.

The July race, which started in Saint-Quentin, France and ended three days later in Monte Carlo, Monaco, had to be driven in a car purchased for no more than £300. Chris and his father found their wheels on Auto-Trader and customised it with charity logos and they also mounted a scaled down model of a Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance on top.

Chris along with Daniel met the Ambucopter’s life-saving crew, staff and charity CEO, Karen Jobling, to hand over a donation of £6,542.12.

The Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance airlifted Daniel to Bassetlaw Hospital in 2004 when he was just two-years-old.

On the family farm Daniel had been kicked in the face by a horse and his left eye socket was severely broken and his cheekbone cracked. The Air Ambulance was called due to the remoteness of the farm in Everton.

Chris said: “We’ve so far raised more than £12,000 for the charity service that airlifted my son when he was in need.

“The Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance is a big thing to our family and friends. If we raise any money, there’s no question; we’re raising it for the Lincs and Nott’s Air Ambulance.”

Karen Jobling, CEO of Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance said: “The Clarkson family are incredible supporters of our charity.

“We’re so glad our crew could help Daniel on that fateful day in 2004 and we’re overwhelmed with the family’s generosity ever since. We loved seeing the car with it’s mini-Ambucopter on top.”
