It is always inspiring to read about an elderly member of our community who is still fighting fit.
Pensioner John Viney, who lives at The Elms retirement park in Torksey, is not content with being a Black Belt in Karate.
He has now formed the Torksey Dragons Tai Chi Club at the age of 65 - a group where there are several members aged in their 70s.
It is brilliant to see people staying active and enjoying activities like this in their retirement.
John is currently studying for the 3rd Dan in Shotokan Karate, and earlier this year reached Level Four in Tai Chi, just one stage away from the highest competence stage of Level Five.
Tai Chi is an excellent way of promoting physical and psychological health, and is especially beneficial for older people wishing to improve their wellbeing.
It is claimed to reduce stress, improve balance and general mobility, and increase muscle strength - and is becoming increasingly popular in nursing homes up and down the country.
I hope John’s new club is a great success and other members of the community are inspired to join him.
