James ‘Jimmy’ Brown, of Retford, was sentenced to 28 days in custody, suspended for the life of the order, by District Judge McMillan at Mansfield County Court earlier this month.

Under the terms of the original injunction, imposed in January, the 56-year-old was forbidden from entering an area of Retford between Firth Road and Galway Crescent and from contacting named individuals who had provided statements against him.

However, on March 18, Brown was seen within the exclusion zone and reported to police.

Brown did not attend court and district Judge McMillan said that as he believed Brown “was not taking the proceedings seriously”, the 28 day sentence would be increased for any further breaches.

Councillor Julie Leigh, cabinet member for neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “Mr Brown has shown a disregard for the rights of his victims and those of the court by breaching the terms of his ASBI.

“This suspended sentence should serve as a warning for him to adhere to the conditions that have been put in place.

“However, should anyone see Mr Brown within the exclusion zone, please report this to the police.”

Don Spittlehouse, managing director at A1 Housing said: “Mr Brown has clearly targeted elderly and vulnerable A1 Housing tenants and will rightly face a prison sentence should he breach again.

“These are extremely serious actions and we will use every power at our disposal to protect residents who are being victimised by ruthless and callous individuals.”

The terms of the original injuction mean that Mr Brown must not engage in conduct which is capable of causing a nuisance, annoyance, alarm or distress to any person attending or residing at a Retford address.
