Life long friends Dawn Bussingham and Jill Hardy were both devastated when they discovered they had breast cancer.

And after undergoing treatment they both stumbled across the Aurora centre at Bassetlaw Hospital, which offers beauty treatments for patients and their families free of charge.

After having treatments and benefiting from the confidential support on offer, they were inspired to raise funds.

Roping in Jill’s sister, Sally Gee, they decided to have a huge tea party at Sally’s farm in Edale, Derbyshire.

Around 150 guests were treated to high tea for £4.50 or tea and cake for £3.50. And on the day there was a raffle, card stall, handicrafts, tombola and treasure hunt.

All of their family and friends got behind the event and they managed to raise a staggering £1,200 which will be split between Breast Cancer Care and the Aurora Wellbeing Centre.

“Ally and her team of therapists really go that extra mile to offer care and friendship when patients are at their lowest,” said Dawn, from Retford.

“And for that hour long treatment they really make you feel special and cared for.”

Now these two inspirational women want to encourage men and women to seek out Aurora and the help the team provides

Jill, from Anston, said: “It really is a life changing and enhancing service.”
