‘Val dreamt of opening a tea room’

There’s a new tea room in town at the Aurora Wellbeing Centre on Memorial Avenue, ready to welcome you with a hot brew and a friendly smile.
Valerie’s Tea Room flung open its doors on Valentine’s Day and staff have been busy serving lots of cake-devouring customers ever since.
Decked out in art deco style the tea room is a stylish, comfortable place to rest your feet during a busy day shopping or meet friends for lunch.
“Aurora is a cancer charity but we are also about wellbeing and are open for absolutely anyone to come in and see what we’re all about,” said Aurora hospitality manager Karen Morris.
“We named it after Aurora founder Valerie Lepedat who always dreamed of opening a cafe with her sisters. She wanted somewhere people could come and chat over coffee and cake.”
And Val’s sisters Dot and Nancy even cut the ribbon to officially open the tea room.
The Aurora centre, based in Worksop’s old library on Memorial Avenue, is gradually filling up with services to support people having treatment for cancer, and their families.
A charity shop is open in one part of the building, the tearoom occupies the central room, Apple Gym are running classes from the gym, and Aurora soon hopes to have beauty treatments up and running.
The tea room is open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.
