Deputy Chief Constable Bob Dyson

ONE of South Yorkshire’s longest serving officers is retiring today after 36 years in the force.

Deputy Chief Constable Bob Dyson began his career in South Yorkshire Police in 1976, as a 19-year-old police constable.

Spending time as an officer in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, Bob worked as a traffic officer and was part of both the firearms and drugs teams.

In 2000, he became Chief Superintendent and in 2003, joined the Senior Command Team as an Assistant Chief Constable. Four years later he was promoted to Deputy Chief Constable.

In 2010, the new training facility Robert Dyson House was named after him.
