GOOD deeds have been done around Gainsborough over the summer holidays by young people as part of the National Citizen Service.

Several groups of youngsters took on projects in the community, in places like Rickmond Park, Tesco, The Old Nick Theatre and Aisby Walk Skatepark.

Last week we reported on the group who revamped the skatepark, giving it a much needed lick of paint before holding their own skate competition.

“The National Citizen Service is a four week programme that aims to improve young people’s personal and social skills as they have just finished their GCSEs,” said Eleanor Slater, 21, who mentored the group.

At Richmond Park, the youngsters undertook various tasks around the park, pruning, tidying and even repainting the gates.

Jimmy Snee, environmental officer for Gainsborough Town Council, said: “The students have been a pleasure to work with, their overall attitude and commitment to what they wanted to achieve was there for all to see.”

“This group of 12 tackled numerous tasks around the park and should be proud of their outcomes both as individuals and as a group.”

“On behalf of Gainsborough Town Council I thank them for their work and wish them well for the future.”

Twelve more students helped out at Gainsborough’s Tesco supermarket, packing bags for customers and helping them to their car with heavy shopping.

And others took on duties at The Old Nick Theatre in Spring Gardens, Gainsborough, helping to spruce up the historic wrought iron staircase with a lick of paint.

“It has been really helpful to have them around. They have done a good job,” said John Derbyshire from the theatre.
