Spared jail for assault
A 22-year-old man has been ordered to pay £500 compensation to a man he punched in Retford market square early on New Year’s Day.
Andy Hurns, of Barnes Court, Retford, was also ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work.
Nottingham Crown Court was told he hit Jack Brown as punishment for going out with his girlfriend last year.
The victim walked to a pub in the square and was asked to step outside about 1am, said Mark Knowles, prosecuting.
Hurns admitted to punching him in the face causing him to fall to the ground unconscious. A probation report spared Hurns jail, indicating he could be given a final chance.
