Sherwood ramble to show support

Campaigners who rallied to save the majestic woodland on Worksop’s doorstep from being sold off are organising a celebratory walk.
The Ramble In The Woods will take place at Sherwood Forest on Sunday 24th March.
It will be the third of its kind and is being held to mark World Forest Day.
Save Sherwood Forest was formed to fight the Government’s plan to sell off some of the nations’s public forest, including parts of Sherwood Forest.
The proposals were halted after a u-turn in March 2011 but the group still campaigns to raise awareness and continue their commitment to keeping the forest safe for future generations.
Cuts to funding of the Forestry Commission have also been a concern for the group.
“We may have won the argument to keep our public forests in public ownership, but we still need to make sure that government provide adequate funding for them,” said a spokesman for Save Sherwood Forest.
“So if you value and enjoy our woods and forests please join us to show your commitment to keeping them safe for future generations.”
The group is inviting people to join them for a morning ramble on Sunday 24th March.
The ramble is a relaxed, buggy-friendly walk which will last about 40 minutes.
Ramblers will enjoy entertaining interludes including songs of celebration and protest, and readings by Sherwood’s own poet, Dave Wood.
The ramble starts and finishes at the car park at Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, Edwinstowe, NG21 9HN.
The meeting time is 10.30am for an 11.15am start. Meet by the big oak tree near the bus stop – and look for the banner.
