Serious bike incidents prompt police warning

LINCOLNSHIRE Police have appealed for people to drive safely and sensibly on the county’s roads, after two serious crashes in recent weeks.

Both involved bikers on high powered motorcycles visiting the Lincolnshire coast and colliding with a tractor and trailer turning across the carriageway.

A fatal collision happened on Sunday 12th August at Harpswell, near Gainsborough, when a biker travelling on the dangerous A631 ‘red route’ collided with a tractor coming out of the junction with Church Lane.

The biker, Camron Lee Mangham, 41, from Bircotes, was pronounced dead at the scene.

And a biker remains in hospital with serious injuries after a second similar incident on the A158 near Spilsby.

Both collisions are still under investigation.

Head of casualty reduction at Lincolnshire Police, Det Insp Rob Grace is appealing for motorists to be particularly vigilant and take extra care on the county’s roads.

“We want people to enjoy the county and for all motorists to safely travel on the county’s roads, particularly during the summer school holidays and whilst the warm weather is upon us,” he said.

“What people must take into account is that we are a large agricultural county with a farming community, and as harvesting has already started there will be large slower moving machinery travelling on our rural roads.”

Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership offers information, advice and training for road users, including motorcyclists.
