A RETFORD man who dealt illegal party drug MCAT from the front seat of his BMW has avoided a jail sentence.
Stephen Davidson, 24, appeared suited and booted at Worksop Magistrates’ Court last Thursday accompanied by his father.
He had admitted possession with intent to supply a class B drug at a previous hearing.
The court heard how Davidson, of Fairway, Ordsall, near Retford, was spotted selling MCAT in the car park behind the Ye Olde Sun Inn pub in Retford on 1st September last year.
Prosecuting, Ruth Snowdin said officers pulled into the car park at 11.15pm when they spotted the BMW with several people gathered round talking to the driver. They left, then two more people approached the car minutes later.
Mrs Snowdin said when officers went over they found small bags of white powder in the centre console, confirmed to be MCAT. They also seized £1,200 in cash and several empty pill capsules, which Davidson said people swallowed instead of snorting the powder.
Defending, Ian Pridham said Davidson had been dealing the drug to friends to fund his own habit.
“He has slipped into this rather naively. He has no criminal background and his family are less than impressed,” said Mr Pridham.
Sentencing Davidson to a 12-month community order with drug rehabilitation training and £145 costs and surcharges, magistrate Alan Burkwood said: “We did consider custody. Involvement in drugs is very serious, especially dealing. You are really getting a second chance.”
