Seafields plans within weeks of being finalised

EXCITING plans which could create up to 500 new jobs on the east side of town are a step closer to being finalised, almost a year after they were unveiled to the public.
A £25m redevelopment of the former Seafields site on Kilton Road, which would boast a supermarket, petrol station and office space, was given the green light by Bassetlaw Council in December 2011.
It followed a public meeting for residents to share their concerns with developers Harris Lamb Property Consultants before an application was submitted to the authority.
The project was approved by councillors minutes after the planning committee voted for an Asda of similar size to the former Vesuvius site on a memorable night for Worksop.
The site was earmarked after developers read the planning inspector’s report for the appeal over the Vesuvius development, which recommended Kilton Road as a preferred site for a supermarket.
Neil Harris from Harris Lamb moved quickly to quash concerns over the progress of the deal.
“I’m very hopeful we can have an official announcement in the next four weeks,” he said.
“We will hopefully have a timetable in place for delivering the deal we want, who the supermarket operator is and exact timings going forward.”
An operator for the 5,500-sq metre retail unit is yet to be confirmed, but developers Harris Lamb has previously stated it was in negotiations with two ‘well-known’ supermarket operators.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to say who the operators will be at present due to a confidentiality agreement,” added Mr Harris.
The development is expected to include a £500,000 invested into the road network surrounding the site in an attempt to calm residents’ concern over the potential increase in traffic flow on the east side of Worksop.
A Bassetlaw Council spokesman said: “The council has largely addressed the outstanding matters in relation to the application for a superstore on the site and is currently awaiting confirmation of acceptance from the landowner’s agents.”
