Sally’s last hand after 40 years

BRIDGE players at Worksop Bridge Club have given their outgoing chairman and director Sally Cook a heartfelt send-off after 40 years.

Sally’s stalwart service was recognised with the presentation of a framed photo and moving citation.

The club was originally founded at Worksop College in the 1970s and has relocated three times over the years.

It now meets to play duplicate bridge every Monday evening at Worksop Cricket Club.

“I have been fortunate enough to play and direct bridge all over the world, but will always fondly remember my home club for the friendship, fun and competition enjoyed there,” said Sally.

“Sadly my health is not up to running the club any longer and I feel that now is the right time to retire.”

“I should like to express deep gratitude for the wonderful times playing in Worksop and thanks to the lovely people who have supported me there.”

Newly-elected chairman and director Peter Halfpenny described Sally as the ‘backbone’ of the club.

He said: “Sally Cook is a bridge legend in this area. She has played innumerable times for the county, directed bridge for Saga Holidays for many years and run the Worksop Club with great personal style.”

“Truly she will be a hard act to follow.”

Worksop Bridge Club has around 40 members in total and boasts a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Any players interested in going along to play should contact 01909 472777.
