Retford RAF chef dishes up help to the homeless
Corporal Becky Williams
A RAF chef from Retford has been busy dishing out help for a special event in London to support homeless people.
Corporal Becky Williams, formerly of Ordsall School, supported the first UK-wide Sleep Out campaign to support Centrepoint - the charity for young homeless people.
Fresh from feeding Armed Forces troops during their Olympics tasks Royal Air Force No 3. Mobile Catering Squadron (3MCS) were back in action again - this time in the capital.
The team set up and ran a field kitchen to fortify with food the 850 volunteer ‘sleepers’ in Exchange Square, Broadgate.
Celebrities and members of the public spend one night on the street each year to raise awareness and sponsorship money for the charity.
In her first year supporting the event as a chef, Cpl Becky Williams, 28, said: “I’ve been on the Squadron for 6 weeks now through promotion. “
“I really like events like this. As a Corporal I get to plan exercises and do a lot more with the Squadron as opposed to just staying in the kitchen.”
3MCS based at RAF Wittering in Lincolnshire provide catering, accommodation management and laundry services to all Armed Forces personnel on Operations around the world.
Wherever they are working 3MCS help keep morale high and maintain healthy, fit troops able to carry out the tasks required of them.
Added Becky: “I think people appreciate you more when you are in a field kitchen as they are cold and hungry. They see the hard work we put in.”
“We maintain our high standards and the troops can’t quite believe what we can produce in the field. I’m excited where the Squadron will take me in the future and I want to go away as much as possible.”
