PLANS for 271 new homes to be built in Dinnington have been given the green light by Rotherham Council.

The development at Outgang Lane had previously been granted outline planning permission for housing back in 2010.

The Planning Board at Rotherham Council heard that the new site would contain a variety of two, three and four bedroom houses, along with some two bedroom apartments.

A report to planning board members said the buildings planned for the development would create ‘interesting and varied street scenes’, which would make a ‘positive contribution to the environment’.

The report continued: “The details include retention and rehabilitation of existing established landscaping on the site along with supplementary planting, including five metre buffer planting around much of the site, and new public open space areas.”

“The proposals will green and soften the proposed development.”

Letters of objection to the development of the site had been received by the planning department.

But officers advised councillors that the issues they raised were considered at the time of the outline planning application in 2010, and where necessary, had been addressed by appropriate conditions.

The report continued: “They are not relevant to the determination of this reserved matters application which is purely looking at the appearance of the dwellings and the landscaping on the site.”

“The submitted details of the appearance of the buildings and landscaping proposals would result in an interesting and varied development which would improve the site and the street scene.”

Coun Barry Dodson raised concerns that tree planting around the greenspaces within the development could lead to anti-social behaviour.

“That is the only thing about the development that concerns me,” he said.

Planning board members voted unanimously in favour of the application.
