Pedal power!

PEOPLE pushed pedal power to the max as they took part in a record-breaking event at West Lindsey Leisure Centre to raise money for charity.

Staff, customers and members of the public took part in the 24-hour bikeathon to raise money for the Disability Sports Events charity.

They each took it in turns to have half-hour spins on the bike, with some managing an impressive two hours - cycling a total of 353 km.

The charity bikeathon challenge saw people at 21 sites across the country take part in an attempt to smash the Guinness World Record.

West Lindsey Leisure Centre manager Kerry O’Neill thanked everyone who turned out to show their support.

“It was fantastic and a lot of fun - the atmosphere was really electric. Everybody got involved and it was all a little bit mad,” she said.

“We have yet to hear whether we have smashed any records but the early signs are looking positive.”

“And we are still counting the money but we have raised over £250 so far, which is great - thanks to everyone who donated and took part.”

Disability Sports Events (DSE) is the events programme of the English Federation of Disability Sports (EFDS).

The team delivers regional, national and international sports events for disabled people.

The aim is to increase participation opportunities at every level, giving disabled people a choice of activity.

These can vary from high participation sports like swimming and athletics, to archery and table tennis.
