Meeting to discuss ‘huge town growth’ for Gainsborough

MASSIVE growth in Gainsborough is up for discussion when the council hold a public drop-in session next week.
Residents and businesses can give feedback on plans for growth in Central Lincolnshire as six weeks of consultation has begun on policies for the Gainsborough area and urban extensions.
Gainsborough is expected to see three ‘new neighbourhoods’ created with the town among the towns listed for new homes, jobs and opportunities.
This is to accommodate a population growth of 86,000 people in the county through provision of 42,800 homes and creation of 26,700 jobs allied to new and improved infrastructure, services, facilities, open spaces and more.
A spokesman from the Central Lincolnshire Joint Planning Committee said: “In the broadest terms, the proposals are for eight new neighbourhoods – with three of those skirting Gainsborough – which would help to provide the housing needed for each area, as well as areas for employment use, new roads and transport infrastructure, schools, shops and healthcare facilities which would not only support the new neighbourhoods but would also to strengthen existing communities, regenerate town centres and support growth of jobs, leisure spaces and educational opportunities.”
“This is a package of comprehensive policies to map-out and manage the long-term development of the wider area and the shaping of the places where we – and future generations – work, live, shop and play.”
Chairman Coun Burt Keimach, said: “Only through growth can we provide the homes, jobs and opportunities to both enable our children to continue living close by and to attract new investment and skilled people.”
