Man injured in air gun shooting

A RAILWAY worker who was working on tracks near Gainsborough railway station has undergone surgery after he was shot with an airgun.

British Transport Police officers are appealing for witnesses after shots were fired at rail staff at 5.20pm on Tuesday 26th January.

A 41-year-old Network Rail employee was hit by one of the air gun pellets, which become lodged in his arm, and he was rushed to Scunthorpe hospital.

British Transport Police has launched an investigation into the incident. Officers attended the scene, searched the area, and are currently undertaking local enquires, and studying CCTV.

DS Paul Kazimierczyk, the investigating officer, said: ”Rail staff have a right to go about their work on the railway without feeling they are in danger - the person responsible has caused serious injury to a Network Rail employee which is total unacceptable, it is vital that we trace them.”

“I am encouraging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and talk to us.”
