A RETFORD man smeared excrement over a police cell after being arrested, Worksop magistrates heard on Friday.

Andrew Hanson, 47, of Lowfields, admitted criminal damage at Newark police station, and using threatening words or behaviour.

The court heard that Hanson was arrested after making gestures towards his neighbour and calling her an insulting name in the communal area of flats on 3rd October, after drinking.

David Verity, defending, said Hanson was getting help for mental health issues. He added that there had been issues between Hanson and his neighbour.

Hanson was given a conditional discharge and must pay £150 compensation to police and £50 towards court costs.
