Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner visits town to talk about Gainsborough crime

THE new Commissioner for Policing and Crime in Lincolnshire made a visit to Gainsborough to talk to residents about their concerns.
Alan Hardwick was elected to the role back in November 2012, and came to Gainsborough’s Market Place on Tuesday 22nd January to meet local PCSOs and talk to residents about what they thought about crime within the town.
“I’m really with impressed with just how much Gainsborough’s PCSO team engage with members of the local community,” said Mr Hardwick.
“I’ve been meeting with as many people as I can, and the citizens of Gainsborough are certainly not afraid to come and talk to me with their suggestions.”
He continued: “There has also been a lot of interest in my draft policy to sign up 1,000 volunteers to help with policing around the county - people seem really keen to take up the opportunity to help make their community safer.”
Talking about what the people of Gainsborough wanted to see from their police force, Mr Hardwick said that his visit had been very informative.
“People in Gainsborough have concerns about a range of serious issues - everything from road safety to police visibility and making their neighbourhoods safer,” he said.
“A lot of people are concerned about public drinking in Gainsborough, which is something that I feel very strongly about. It’s the root of a lot of anti-social behaviour that plagues every single locality and we can work to eradicate it.”
Responding to how the town is going to cope with policing as the population doubles in the coming 20 years, Mr Hardwick said: “I’m thrilled about the growth coming to town. Gainsborough will be the nucleus of a thriving and vibrant urban area. We would see that police numbers are a top priority as part of that.”
Mr Hardwick continued: “As the area develops, Gainsborough must and will be policed properly - if the Government could give us more money to do so then that would be nice.”
“I will keep pushing them for a fairer deal and reminding them that by denying Lincolnshire its fair share of funding, they are making it extremely difficult for me to carry out my commitment to protecting the county.”
“He added: “The previous authority wanted to reduce the number of officers in the county - but that will not be happening now and I hope that people volunteer to become special constables. There is an untapped reserves of people with great public spirit who want to help.”
