Judge calls Gainsborough man ‘a danger to women’ before jailing him for breaching court order

A GAINSBOROUGH man who twice broke a court order not to contact his partner has been jailed for 112 days at Lincoln Crown Court.
David Bell went back to live with his partner in the town after being released from a prison sentence but then reported himself to police calling in the early hours of the morning to tell them where he was staying and adding that he was about “to kick off”.
Andrew Scott, prosecuting, said officers went to the property in Waterworks Street and Bell opened the door.
“His partner was inside,” said Mr Scott.
“She attempted to convince the officers that Bell was free to live with her and that the restraining order had been rescinded.”
Bell was arrested but claimed his partner had continued writing to him in prison and then met him at Gainsborough Lea Road Railway Station on his release.
He was bailed but was later found back living in Waterworks Street when officer went to check out the address.
Bell, 38, currently of no fixed address admitted two breaches of a court restraining order not to contact his partner.
He also admitted breach of a sex offenders’ registration order by failing to report weekly to police as required because of his lack of a permanent address.
His 112 day sentence runs consecutively with another 112 day sentence imposed by Lincoln Magistrates earlier this month for three charges of common assault.
Judge James Sampson told him: “The reports reveal you to be a violent bully and a danger to women.”
“You have a dreadful record for domestic violence.”
Sam Skinner, defending, said Bell had a tempestuous relationship with the woman which was made worse by the fact that he had a drink problem.
