A GAINSBOROUGH man was subjected to a terrifying ordeal after a drug supplier attempted to enforce a debt, a jury at Lincoln Crown Court was told.

Brian Page was beaten and then tied to a tree before being assaulted over a number of hours after losing cash and cocaine.

Michael Cranmer-Brown, prosecuting, told the jury that Page had been selling drugs on behalf of Jim Smith, 25, of Riseholme Road, Gainsborough. Smith is alleged to have inflicted the violence which left Page with injuries including a fractured jaw after he was taken to an isolated spot at the back of the Summergangs Lane travellers’ site. Page made a false complaint to police claiming he was the victim of a robbery in which the drugs and cash were taken but Smith did not believe his story and pursued him for the debt.

Page is said to have had his hands tied up and was walked through Gainsborough to the rear of the travellers’ site.

Page was struck with rocks during a three to four hour long attack and only escaped when he managed to wriggle free when Smith fell asleep.

Smith later claimed he was not involved in the attack.

Smith denies kidnap, false imprisonment and inflicting GBH with intent on 2nd August 2012. The trial continues.
