Local residents are being encouraged to go green and take up home composting.

As part of International Compost Awareness Week Veolia Environmental Services gave away 100 free compost bins.

Composting is a family pastime for Worksop resident Kirsty Hunt-Miller. Her family use the new compost bin for grass cuttings and veg peelings, with the finished compost being put to good use at her father’s allotment site.

Coun Richard Butler, chair of Notts County Council’s environment committee, said “We are delighted that so many residents are having a go at home composting and we hope that this campaign will encourage others to join them.”
