A WORKSOP man has been banned from contacting his former partner after he admitted hitting her with a pair of shoes during a New Year’s Day attack.
Neil Cook, 34, of Carlton Road, was also given a nine month suspended jail sentence after he admitted assaulting Deborah Rodgers at her flat in Skegness.
Lincoln Crown Court heard the couple had been out celebrating New Year’s Eve when neighbours called the police after hearing Miss Rodgers’ screams from the property.
Christoper Gabbitas, prosecuting, said Cook had become angry as the couple returned home from their night out and pushed Miss Rodgers into a hedge.
Once inside the flat Cook punched her in the face several times and struck her with her own shoes, the court was told.
In her victim impact statement, which was read out in court, Miss Rodgers said she had ended the relationship.
The court was told Cook had one previous conviction for a domestic assault on a previous partner.
In mitigation the court heard Cook was living in Worksop and hoped to secure a job as an Army chef. It also heard he had stopped drinking since New Year’s Eve.
Cook admitted one offence of assault causing actual bodily harm. He was handed a nine month prison sentence suspended for 18 months, an 18 month probation supervision order, and put on an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting Miss Rodgers.
Passing sentence, judge David Mason QC said Cook had not been jailed because he had shown remorse, and his victim’s injuries were ‘not that serious’.
