Fan fined after pitch invasion
A FOOTBALL fan from Gainsborough who ran onto the side of the pitch of the One Call Stadium in Mansfield to celebrate a goal during a match was ordered to pay £180.
Lincoln City fan Daniel Odling, from Gainsborough, appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court after the incident at the recent FA Cup match against Mansfield Town on 12th December.
The 28-year-old jumped beyond the advertising hoardings after his team equalised.
The court heard how he had been waiting in a queue for a burger when Lincoln made it 1-1.
He ran up to the stand and over the hoardings to celebrate on the cinder track besides the pitch.
Admitting the charge, he denied he had any intention of invading the pitch, despite being held back by police and stewards.
The unemployed defendant was arrested, detained and then charged.
Mansfield eventually won the game 2-1.
Odling manged to avoid a ban from football stadium grounds, but was then fined £75, a £20 surcharge and £85 costs.
He was told that had he been in employment, he would have been hit with a much bigger fine.
