Family man 'would do anything for his children'

A FATHER of six who ran his own computer business in Gainsborough died at home over the Christmas period.

The family of 44-year-old Brian Jefferson, of Parnell Street, have thanked friends and former customers for their messages of support.

Brian's wife Wendy described her husband of almost 20 years as 'a lovable rogue' and a 'wonderful father' to their children Daryl, 16, Warren, 14, Bryony, 11, Callam, 10, Angela, five, and Fern, eight weeks.

"We had a wonderful Christmas Day together. It was fantastic with me, Brian and all the kids together. It was a real day to remember," said Wendy, 40.

"He was a really good dad. He had a bit of a soft touch but, just like any father, he would really do anything to protect his children if they needed it."

Born in Burn, near Selby, to parents Alan and Rosemary, Brian moved to a farm on Pelfintax at the age of four and went to Westwoodside C of E School and South Axholme Comprehensive School.

He met Wendy at school but did not pluck up the courage to ask her out until some time later. They married in 1990.

The couple moved to Gainsborough in 1992 and Brian began working for Notts County Council's Highways Department, and then became an overnight lorry driver and delivered fresh produce to the London markets.

In 1995, Brian was helping his parents move out of their farm when he hit his head on a low ceiling, and from this accident he developed epilepsy and had to give up his driving license.

Battling through this difficult time, he eventually found the right level of treatment and medication and got his license back.

While out of work, he took up a basic course in computer maintenance, and this developed into a job with Canute Computers, on Caskgate Street.

Brian's older brother David, 47, explained that when the business was sold Brian took the initiative to set up his own business called BJ's Computer Repairs.

"People would take their ailing computers to him and he would usually succeed in resolving any issues,' he said.

"Since he died, one customer has even commented that Brian had come round for a few hours on Christmas Eve to help with a problem."

"Even on Christmas Day, he was advising me over the phone about the new computer I had bought for my daughter."

As well as spending time with his family, Brian loved tinkering with anything electrical, trying his hand at karaoke and going fishing.

He had recently landscaped his mother's garden to make things easier after his father Alan passed away last January.

His business also sponsored the Midtown United Junior Football Club shirts and he ran a mobile disco called the Panther Road Show.

Mr Jefferson died on 27th December from heart failure, and his body was cremated at a service at the Woodlands Crematorium in Scunthorpe on 15th January.

He also leaves behind his sister Lisa and his mother Rosemary.
