WORKSOP’S Crossing Reading Group gathered children’s books to donate to a nursery in St Lucia as part of a special Bassetlaw Fairtrade initiative.
St Edmund Hillary Primary School also donated a selection of educational books to the cause.
The books will be shipped by the West Indies Freight Company this month to arrive in St Lucia in time for Christmas.
St Lucian banana grower Moses Renee visited Bassetlaw earlier this year and said a new nursery, funded by Fairtrade Premiums, desperately needed new books.
Bassetlaw Fairtrade spokesman Kathy Cowbrough said: “This is a combined effort from Bassetlaw people working together to make a difference.”
