Emergency services warning as flooding hits Worksop area

EMERGENCY services are warning drivers to take care as flooding continues to affect parts of Worksop, Retford and Gainsborough this morning.

Readers reported several road closures following the weekend’s torrential downpours, including under the railway bridge on Shireoaks Road at Rhodesia.

In Misterton, readers took this photograph showing flooding under the railway bridge on Fox Covert Lane.

Yesterday, Notts County Council’s Paul Mckay, Service Director and Chairman of the Risk Safety Emergency Management Board, said: “I am asking drivers please do not attempt to drive through a road that is closed due to flooding, even if you are in a 4x4.”

“And please do not move cones or signs, they are there for your safety. The council will re-open roads when it is safe to do so.”

“The County Council’s focus at the moment is supporting those areas in most need, ensuring alternative accommodation is made available if required by anyone evacuated from their home and ensuring vulnerable people who need care in their home continue to receive the services they need. We are also working closely with private sector care providers.”
