A NIGHT out turned sour when a Worksop man drunkenly assaulted his girlfriend’s pal.

Worksop magistrates heard how Luke O’Brien, 28, had been out with friends on 15th July this year.

The group went home but O’Brien, of Blyth Road, was so drunk he had to be put to bed. Prosecuting, Catherine Picardo said he got up and started a fight with Rebecca Robinson.

Despite friends’ attempts to calm him down, O’Brien punched Ms Robinson and threw her to the floor.

Defending, David Grant said: “It was a drunken situation involving quite a few people.” O’Brien admitted assault. His sentence was one year community order, 120 hours unpaid work, £50 compensation, £85 costs.
