Dangerous driver banned

A Thurcroft man fled from police because he was riding a trials bike without insurance, a court heard.
Jordan Cardwell, 19, of Cedric Cerscent in Thurcroft admitted driving dangerously, driving without insurance and failing to stop at Rotherham Magistrates Court on Monday.
Mark Hughes, prosecuting, told the court that at 9.30am on 25th August, police went to Thurcroft following reports that a drug deal was taking place in a garage on Arbour Drive.
“When they got there they saw a Volkswagon Golfwith a male in it and a man on a trials bike,” he said.
“Believing that a drug deal was in progress the police made attempts to stop them leaving the scene.”
“The defendant started to rev his bike and the officer stood in front of it and put his hand up to tell him to stop.”
But Cardwell didn’t stop, and instead swerved round the officer and out of the garage.
“He exited at speed at the officers were concerned for the safety of the public,” continued Mr Hughes.
“The officers said after the bike swerved across the road two small male children ran out of a driveway, and the bike narrowly missed them.”
“He picked up speed and drove along a footpath. The officers lost sight of him, but were told that it was Cardwell riding it,” he added.
The police later went to another garage area, where they found Cardwell closing a garage door.
The court heard he was arrested and in interview he denied all the matters put to him, despite being picked out during an identity parade.
In mitigation, the court heard Cardwell was about a metre away from the police officer when he drove the bike around him.
He said he left the scene because he didn’t want the police to take the motorbike away from him, because he knew he had no insurance.
The court heard that no charges were brought against Cardwell for the drugs matter, and that another man has been sentenced for that.
The Bench was also told Cardwell was already the subject of a community order with a curfew and was complying with it.
Cardwell was given a five month curfew to run concurrently with his existing one from 7pm to 7am. He was disqualified from driving for 15 months, and will have to take an extended re-test.
