Countdown to a town Christmas

GAINSBOROUGH'S countdown to Christmas will begin this week with seasonal celebrations across the town.

The town centre event tomorrow will include a band, fairground rides and carols sungs by a school choir and the Salvation Army.

Town mayor Raoul Hesse-Phillipson will switch the lights on in the market square at 7pm but the other entertainment will begin from 4.30pm.

At Marshall’s Yard, Father Christmas will be on hand alongside entertainment from stilt walkers and jugglers, and Snow White from a town pantomime from 4pm.

The big switch on of Marshall’s Yard lights will be switched on on at 6pm and there will be a roadshow hosted by Lincs FM.

”We’re really looking forward to the event on Friday, which will be our third at Marshall’s Yard,” said Jackie Helliwell, centre manager.

”There will be lots going on for all the family and everyone should be in for a great night.”

Gainsborough Lions' year of fundraising for Gainsborough Adventure Playground will come to an end tomorrow in a special party to follow the Christmas Lights switch-on.

Residents are invited to take part in one final fundraising push at the Gainsborough Conservative Club, where they'll be able to dine, chat and even bet on a snail race.

l Doors open at 7pm and the night kicks off at 7.30pm. There will be a small fee for food.
