Council room opens doors

THE Bassetlaw public will have a rare opportunity to take a look at the portraits inside the council chamber room at Retford Town Hall next month.

The room, which is normally reserved for council meetings and events, will be open to the public on Saturday 9th February, between 10am and 2pm.

The art on show includes the imposing life-size portraits of royalty, mayors and dignitaries hanging on the walls.

Visitors will also have the chance to create their own portraits of Retford’s current mayor, coun Carol Palmer and the Chairman of Bassetlaw Council, coun Ian Campbell with local artist Ruth Templeton.

Coun Julie Leigh, portfolio holder for Environment and Leisure said it a rare chance to glimpse at some of the fantastic portraits that are housed in Retford Town Hall.
