COMMUNITY groups in Retford will be able to pitch for funding to improve their neighbourhoods in a Dragon’s Den style scheme.

Up to £10,000 is up for grabs thanks to a partnership between A1 Housing and the Bassetlaw Association of Tenants and Residents Association (BATRA).

BATRAS Den will offer community and voluntary groups the opportunity to make a short pitch to the Dragons.

If the pitch impresses them then that group will walk away with a share of the money.

To be eligible to enter, pitches must be made on behalf of Community and Voluntary groups operating in Bassetlaw and they must have members who are A1 tenants or dependents who reside with A1 Housing tenants.

They must also support one of the following aims - to reduce anti-social behaviour, to reduce rent arrears, support community development, clean and enhance the appearance of estates, promote access to training and development to improve life skills, communities working together to improve facilities, creating neighbourhoods people are proud of or creating healthier and more active people and communities.

Joan Linacre, chair of BATRA, was looking forward to hearing about the different ideas people will come up with.

She said: “BATRA’s Den has £10,000 to give to projects that we feel will make a difference to our local communities, but we need to be impressed by the pitches.”

“As well as valuable funding for community groups, BATRA’s Den gives people experience in preparing and delivering presentations.”

“I am really looking forward to finding out what ideas people come up with.”

Joice Rennie, Director of Strategy and Change at A1 Housing said the scheme was a chance for groups to improve their neighbourhoods for the better.

“A1 Housing is delighted to support BATRA’s Den and this funding can make a real difference to local community groups,” she added.

“It’s also a great opportunity for our tenants and residents associations to help shape improvements to our neighbourhoods.”

Applications must be submitted by 15th February. To get an application form and more information on eligibility call 0800 590542 between 8am and 5pm.

Applicants who meet the full criteria will then be invited into the ‘Den’ to pitch their case in front of the BATRA Dragons on Tuesday 5th March at Worksop Town Hall.
