By-election announced for Gainsborough East

RESIDENTS of Gainsborough’s East ward are invited to step up to be part of local government with a by-election announced by West Lindsey District Council (WLDC) for next month.

The election will be to replace Coun Mel Starkey - who passed away in October.

Any person interested in being nominated as a candidate for the election can obtain a nomination paper from the Returning Officer at Guildhall, Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, DN21 2NA.

Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer at any time between Thursday 10th January and 12pm on Friday 18th January. If the election is contested residents will be able to vote on Thursday 14th February.

West Lindsey District Council has issued the following information for residents regarding voting:

- Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Guildhall, Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, DN21 2NA by 5pm on Wednesday 30th January.

- Applications to vote by proxy must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Guildhall, Marshall`s Yard, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, DN21 2NA by 5pm on Wednesday 6th February.

- Applications to vote by proxy applied for on grounds of physical incapacity, where that physical incapacity occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 6th February must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Thursday 14th February.

Mel Starkey, 61, was first elected to WLDC in 1987 and had an illustrious career in local government.
