Artists impression of the new Worksop Bus Station
DESIGNS for Worksop’s new bus station go on show next week and the Worksop Guardian is offering YOU the first glimpse.
The contemporary new plans go on display at a three day roadshow at the Civic Square on Potter Street from next Thursday.
Bus users and residents will get a chance to see the artist’s impressions up close and talk to the people behind the scheme.
Notts County Council has been pushing ahead with plans since it bought a plot of land in Newcastle Street last July, ending months of speculation over the likely site of the new interchange.
The £3 million bus station will be at the junction of Newcastle Street and Watson Road, next to the Queen Street car park and just a few hundred metres from the current Hardy Street depot.
If everything goes to plan, the council hopes construction work could start this autumn, with construction expected to take around nine months.
It is proposed the station will have eight bays for buses.
And while the look of the new interchange is similar to the one at Retford, the public will be asked which features are important to them, like a staffed information point, toilets, seating, electronic information screens and CCTV.
Notts County Council said it was working closely with bus operator Stagecoach and Bassetlaw Council on planning the station. The station running costs will be shared between the county council and district council.
“The new bus station will help stimulate the economy of Worksop,” said Coun Richard Jackson, chairman of the county council’s transport and highways committee.
“We want the people of Worksop to have a bus station of which they can be proud and which they really feel is theirs.”
Coun Simon Greaves, leader of Bassetlaw Council welcomed the forthcoming consultation event.
“This is vitally important for the town and will build further on the successes of the new cinema and the market relocation,” he said.
