Brothers jumping for a good cause

TWO Gainsborough brothers recently leapt out of a plane for a 15,000 ft freefall parachute jump, raising over 600 for Help For Heroes and Cancer Research UK.

Daniel and James Lindsay chose these charities for very personal reasons, and said they'd love to re-live the experience again.

Daniel, 23, said he initially agreed to the jump to help out James on his birthday.

"I did it for moral support for my brother," said Daniel.

"He was doing it on his 16th birthday so he needed someone over 18 to do it with him so he asked me."

"I don't think I quite comprehended what it was he had asked me to do until the morning of the jump!"

He continued: "We chose Help For Heroes because we're an RAF Family, and I chose Cancer Research UK because I was going out with a girl whose mum passed away from cancer."

"We've split up now but it was still great to raise money for a worthy cause."

Daniel said that despite his initial reluctance to jump, he got an amazing buzz out of it and couldn't wait to jump again.

"It was legendary!" he said.

"It was one of the best experiences of my life, and I'm even looking into going to Spain to get my licence so I can do it a lot more often."

James is a member of 203 Gainsborough Air Training Corps and hopes to join the armed forces in the next 12 months.

He said that he enjoyed his birthday jump and he was even happier because it raised money for a cause that is very close to his heart.

"I chose Help For Heroes because the armed forces are in our family genes, so I wanted to raise money for it because I want to join the army as well," he said.

He added: "We just went for it and I really enjoyed myself."

The boys' father Richard Lindsay is an e- member of the Royal Air Force having served 23 years, and says that the entire family are proud of the boys.

"Both of us are unbelievably proud of the boys," he said.

"It proves that young people in the this day and age can achieve anything they want to when they put their minds to it."

He added: "James organised the whole event from initial enquiries to completing this awesome event, and completed it on his 16th birthday as well so what an amazing achievement."

The boys' mother Tracey was equally delighted with what the boys had achieved.

"I'm just extremely proud of them," she said.

"I wouldn't go and watch them on the day but I've seen the video."

"Now that I know they're safe I'm just so happy and proud of them."

She added: "What they've done is amazing"
