Brave little Tia gets the rose

A BRAVE little girl from Worksop has been handed the Guardian Rose this week in recognition of her ongoing fight with ill health.

Tia Kirk, seven, of Ely Close, was diagnosed with type one diabetes when she was just 14 months old. And just recently she has been told she has Bells palsy which causes facial paralysis.

There were kisses and cuddles all round as close family friend Katie Lee presented Tia and her mum Renata with the rose.

“I just wanted to show you how much we love you and say how brave you have both been,” said Katie, 27.

“Despite all the things you have been through, you are always there for me.”

Tia, who goes to Ryton Park Primary School, said she enjoys school and loves her teacher Miss Wilkinson.

She also has two twin sisters Madison and Morgan who are four.

Mum Renata Kirk said: “It was terrifying when Tia was diagnosed with diabetes. She was in hospital for two weeks.”

“It’s been hard but we have come to manage it quite well. She has got an insulin pump fitted permanently, and the teachers at school are really good at helping her change the fittings.”

The family also recently had a generous £100 donation from the Worksop Friendlies Pool League.

“We bought Tia some special vests and t-shirts which hold her insulin pump. There’s even one with her name on and a picture of her favourite pop group JLS.”
