Bassetlaw councillor steps down from housing role

BASSETLAW Council’s portfolio holder for housing has resigned to concentrate on the Notts County Council 2013 elections.

Coun Alan Rhodes officially stepped down from his position on the district council on 31st December 2012.

He wrote to the council leader as well as informing the Labour group of his intentions last month.

Coun Rhodes will remain as a district councillor until his term ends in 2015 and will concentrate on this year’s elections in his capacity as leader of the Labour opposition at Notts County Council.

Coun Rhodes said he felt now was the ‘right time’ to step aside from his cabinet role.

“It has been a privilege to serve on the Cabinet again since Labour took back control of the Council in 2011 and I am grateful to the Labour Group for affording me that opportunity,” he said.

“However, with the conclusion of the work of the Housing Options Group into the future of A1 Housing, the revised Tenancy Strategy and the Choice Based Lettings Policy, both of which were approved by Council at the December meeting, I believe that now is an appropriate point to step aside.”

He added: “May I take the opportunity to pay tribute to Mark Ladyman, David Armiger, Claire Frost and the Housing team at BDC and Bernard Coleman and his remarkable team at A1 Housing for the outstanding work that they do on behalf of our tenants and the Bassetlaw community.”
